INTERVIEW ETIQUETTES

Interview etiquettes? Really? Isn’t it very basic?

You might say this at first, but yes! Something weird happened to me recently that I could not stop myself from writing this. So here it goes:

Last week I interviewed a candidate for a vacancy in my team. This interview made me feel as if I was any nervous fresh graduate coming out of university and asking questions from a very confident and senior professional! Obviously, the way she was continuously moving her jaws while chewing bubble gum, I cannot call her Experienced! But, yes, she behaved as if she was not there for some interview but for an informal chit-chat where she could smile and laugh whenever she wants without having any fear of rejection!

She had all the skills for a beginner level required for the job position. But, her attitude, her presentation, and her non-seriousness were so appalling that  I had to restrain myself from telling her: “Don’t go with a chewing gum in your mouth for your next interview and control your laughter at inappropriate moments! ”

INTERVIEW ETIQUETTES

Well, this was the short story that I just shared to highlight the difference between confidence and over-confidence. It is good to be confident, but you should know how to present yourself! Your interview directly affects the chances of your hiring!

There are few things you should take care of:

  1. Prepare your mind for the interview _ choose effective words to speak about yourself and your experience
  2. Check what confidence level do you have _ ensure poise
  3. Must prepare some words for “About Me” but be precise
  4. Absorb some knowledge on company’s profile and vision
  5. Get your updated CV ready to take away with you
  6. Look neat and decent when you dress up
  7. Greet formally with a smile to the interviewers
  8. While in the interview, try to sit formally_ Never lean on the chair’s back
  9. Listen to the questions carefully and ask to repeat if you don’t understand, instead of answering wrong!
  10. Most important: If you have no experience, be clear on your objective and aims in terms of working position!
  11. Manage your expressions. Try to look calm, and smile when required _ avoid unnecessary frankness
  12. Show your eagerness in the right direction, at the right time and reflect your enthusiasm in your work, not in talks!_ Never give the impression that you can do anything for the job.
  13. During the interview, ask questions only when you are allowed to. Or, you can always ask questions at the end.
  14. Don’t forget to say Thank you before you leave
